Trend Alert: The Best Long Hairstyles 2015

Hair-Care-Tips-LONG-HAIRSTYLES-2015-1While the bob and lob may have had their moment in 2014, long hair is making a serious comeback and will be the “it” length this coming year. Long hair was all over the runways for the Spring 2015 fashion shows, worn in loose waves, tight ponytails or slicked back on the top of the head. The trend is totally natural, simple, yet stylish hair that’s anything but boring.

We reveal 10 of the best long hairstyles 2015:

1. Boho Waves: Boho waves are simple, carefree and barely there waves that flow past the shoulders. The question is how do you achieve that soft, yet sophisticated tousled look that’s just right for everyday hair? With a few simple steps, you too can achieve this look. Begin by prepping hair with something that will protect it from heat and will provide a bit of shape and body – either a volumizing primer or heat-protecting mousse. Section the hair from behind the ears straight across and fasten with a clip. With a waving wand curling iron, take 1.5-inch sections of your hair and wind the hair around the wand, pointing it vertically to the floor leaving the ends free. Hold for 15-20 seconds then release. Repeat around the head alternating the direction you wind so that it’s not identical and spray with hairspray. Release the top section and repeat step 3. Try and curl the front sections away from the face so it’s more flattering. Using your fingers, drag them through the curls to completely soften and dishevel them. Spritz again with hair spray and the look is complete!

2. Long Ponytails: With long hair, the classic ponytail can be transformed in so many different ways. Whether it’s high and sleek, loose and low, or messy, the ponytail continues to be a simple yet stylish way to wear your long hair. Low ponytails were especially popular on the runways and are a simple way for you to stay on trend. Whether you are going with a sleek look or a more flowy, textured pony, secure the hair at the nape of the neck and you’ll be right on trend for 2015.

3. Braids: The braid continues to be a long hair trend for the stylish crowd. If you haven’t already mastered the fishtail braid, now would be a good time to learn. Here’s a simple how-to for a side fishtail braid. Begin by pulling hair into a low side ponytail. Secure it with a clear plastic elastic that you can cut out once you’ve finished the braid. Divide the ponytail into two smaller, equal sized ponytails. Next, separate a half-inch section of hair from the outside of the left ponytail. Pull this piece across the top of the left ponytail over to right ponytail, remembering not to twist the hair as you bring it across. Next, separate a half-inch section of hair from outside the right ponytail. Pull this piece across the top of the right ponytail over to the left ponytail. Repeat these steps until you run out of hair. When you’re finished braiding, secure the ends with an elastic. Cut out the elastic you used at the beginning of your ponytail. If the braid is messy, that’s ok – it’s part of the look!

4. Undone Knots: Hair buns of all kinds have been a popular style for the past several years but this coming year, there’s a focus on a more undone, casual look. This look is particularly good for those with naturally curly or wavy hair as it lends the perfect texture to the undone look. The key is to focus on a less polished look and to embrace those flyaways.

5. Slick Shiny Hair: It’s that “fresh out of the water” look that modern girls all crave. The look is meant to be a take on the “just left the gym, sweaty look” but with a cool girl vibe. The look can be worn with either hair down and straight or up in a ponytail. The key is to use styling cream or mousse on dry hair to help you get the look. The wet look is best when concentrated on the top of the head, leaving the mid-length to the ends of the hair naturally dry.

6. Bombshell Blowouts: We all have a need to look and feel our most sexy and the bombshell blowout is the way to go. Big blowouts and bouncy curls will make any girl feel like the ultimate bombshell! To get the ultimate blowout, begin by prepping hair with a thickening lotion through damp hair. Start by quickly blow-drying your hair all over to get rid of most of the moisture. Next, using your fingers, flip your hair in the opposite direction of how you normally wear it (or upside down) to lock in volume as you dry. Then divide your hair into small sections and, using a round brush, dry each section, going from root to tip. For extra volume, use Velcro rollers to create the ultimate bombshell look. Choose 2-inch rollers for maximum volume. Roll the hair away from the face for the illusion of more volume. Use hairspray after each roll is removed to set the look.

7. Half-Up, Half-Down Hairstyles: The ideal way to hide your bad hair day, half-up, half-down styles are making a comeback in 2015. Especially key to this style is the use of hair accessories, like minimalist metallics or pretty jewels. Half-up, half down hairstyles are also a great way to hide bangs or grown out layers.

8. Side Swept Hair: Side swept hair takes your look from basic to stylish and can be done with a variety of shapes and textures. Side swept looks are more universally flattering than parting hair in the centre. Sweeping hair to the side can be sleek and classy or careless and cool, depending on what texture you choose for your hair. You could go with a classy pin straight look or a more careless, easy wavy look.

9. Straight and Sleek: While waves are on trend for the season, straight hair is also having its moment. As always, pin straight hair is one option, but messy looks are also showing popularity. Adding lots of texture gives the look a modern feel. Changing up your part can also bring new life to this look, whether you decide on a basic centre part or an on trend side sweep.

10. Bangs: This year, bangs are coming back in all shapes and styles, whether long and side swept or short and choppy. If you want to change up your look without changing the length, bangs are the ideal way to transform your style. The secret to great bangs depends on your face shape and your haircut. If you want to hide a large forehead, you need to choose an eyebrow-sweeping bang that will hide your forehead. If you have a narrow forehead, you shouldn’t hide it with a long bang. Instead, choose side swept or baby bangs to open up your face and accentuate your features.

So ladies, it’s time to start growing out those bobs and embrace your long hair once again!
