Seamless Combs for Healthier Hair

Hair-Care-SEAMLESS-COMBS-1

Take your comb and inspect the teeth. Is there a line down the middle? If you can’t see it, can you feel a raised edge in the middle? That’s the seam. With every pass of that comb through your hair the seams can catch and snag on the hair causing splits and breakage. If you’re having a problem with split ends that seem to appear from nowhere you might benefit from investing in a seamless comb. Not only does it help detangle hair, but it prevents damage to the cuticles that cause mid shaft splits as well. Regular combs have seams that wreak havoc on your hair strands causing both mid-shaft splits and split ends. So don’t put in all the hard work to grow long, healthy hair only to have it compromised with the wrong equipment!  Sure! They are more expensive than regular combs as they are often handmade. But isn’t your hair worth this small investment for a lifetime of reward?

To Brush or Not to Brush

Hair-Care-BRUSH-OR-NOT-TO-BRUSH-1 A hairbrush is no longer an essential component of hair care! Many people with curly or frizzy hair find hairbrushes add unwanted volume to their hair, destroy the definition of their curls and result in ‘poufy’ unmanageable hair. Using a wide-toothed comb, fingers or a pic to comb hair is a preferable option in this case. Even straight-haired people often prefer to avoid using a hairbrush. However, knowing how to properly use a brush can preserve your hair strands and keep your hair strong and healthy. Only once your hair is detangled should you pick up a brush! Then work from the scalp in long, even strokes to catch the sebum (natural scalp oils) and distribute it down the length of the hair, where it will condition the hair shafts. However, cheaply-made bobble-tipped brushes should be avoided. The bobbles serve no purpose and in poorly-made brushes tend to split and crack away from the bristles, leaving cracks which catch and tear hair.

Of course, the best hair brushes need to be very gentle on hair. For this, choose boar bristle tufts in your hair brushes because of the shine it leaves and its natural gentleness on the cuticle of the hair. Great for all hair types; and perfect for distributing the natural oils in the hair and scalp.

What Makes a Moisturizer Moist?

Hair-Care-WHAT-MAKES-MOISTURIZER-MOIST-1Healthy hair normally has a moisture content of approximately 10%. If your hair’s moisture content drops below this level the key is to increase the hair’s ability of attract and retain moisture. This is accomplished by using moisturizers. But with so many products to choose from, how do you know what to look for? Well, the first essential ingredient is water – that’s right, good old H20. When shopping for your perfect moisturizer look for those that contain water within the top three ingredients. Also, moisturizers with natural oils, and herbal extracts, these are very effective, as they provide a wide range of nutrients, antioxidants and vitamins vital for healthy hair and scalp.  Next, good moisturizers have “humectants,” such as vegetable glycerin, honey, or glycosaminoglycans, which not only replace lost moisture but actually attract moisture and retain it in the cortex of the hair. Moisturizing should be done on a daily basis, as the exposure to the elements, and daily heat styling could lead to a dry, brittle hair and unwanted breakage.
